Within this section you will find introductions to our teachers and to our curriculum by grade. You will also find a little tidbit about each classroom. However, there is still so much more about Anchor Lutheran School!
Community service is an important mission here at Anchor from donating to the Lutheran Social Services Food Bank and its annual distribution of Thanksgiving food baskets to raising salmon eggs for the Alaska Deptartment of Fish and Game. Also, Anchor sponsors a mile long section of bike trail and the Jr. High students keep it clean.
Wednesday mornings at 9:15, all students gather to participate in Chapel. Once a month, a different class is responsible for leading a part of Chapel. Parents are always welcome to join us for this special time of music and devotion.
Learning is fun here at Anchor and we encourage students to participate in the Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, or hone a new skill by joining Chess Club. After the rush of the Christmas season we settle down to our "Read-a-Thon" which is a great way for students to set and achieve reading goals. During the school day announcements are made to "stop, drop and read" to help them reach their goal. Those who attain their goals are rewarded with a fun celebration event.
There are many other activities just for fun and fellowship here at our school. Throughout the year, Spirit Days add excitement with themes such as "Crazy Hair Day" and "Inside-Out & Backward Day". On "Beach Day" parents are invited to join us for VIP Lunch where we all cool ourselves in the big blue ocean (carpet) of our multi-purpose room! Anchor has an active Parent Council which dedicates itself to making sure teachers have the classroom help they need. In addition, they make certain events such as Family Fun Night, the Carnival, and the biggest event of all, the annual Auction, have adequate volunteers in order to be successful. We celebrate the end of our year with an all day school picnic!
Anchor has much to offer! Please stop in any time and meet our teachers and students, take a tour of our building and see what we are all about.
